UT is a non-destructive testing (NDT) method that is effective for detecting surface and sub-surface discontinuities. The UT process is accomplished by inducing a high-frequency sound energy into the test material which reflects back once a boundary is encountered. By analyzing the reflections technicians are able to locate and size discontinuities and determine material thickness. Indications, or discontinuities, can then be analyzed against applicable acceptance criteria.
